Untitled. [18 Oct 2009|03:48pm]
[ mood | excited ]

It became official a couple days ago. I finally registered for National Novel Writing Month. If you're unfamiliar-- I only have the month of November to write 50,0000 words.

I think I'm on a suicide mission.

I'm still working out the details of my novel idea. I think it's going to be about a failed writer who realizes she has never suffered and decides to run away from her life. How does she plan to discover suffering? Who does she meet on the way? I have no clue. I'm not even sure if I should follow through with this idea anymore. It sounded brilliant in my head, but now the whole thing sounds lame.

"Forget everything you knew about Shakespeare.." [22 Sep 2009|04:46pm]
I always feel like I rediscover Shakespeare whenever I have to study his works.

In Shakespeare class we've been studying his sonnets for the past few weeks. Tomorrow we have to discuss our personal favorites. Here's my favorite:

Sonnet 15

When I consider every thing that grows
Holds in perfection but a little moment,
That this huge stage presenteth nought but shows
Whereon the stars in secret influence comment;
When I perceive that men as plants increase,
Cheered and cheque'd even by the self-same sky,
Vaunt in their youthful sap, at height decrease,
And wear their brave state out of memory;
Then the conceit of this inconstant stay
Sets you most rich in youth before my sight,
Where wasteful Time debateth with Decay,
To change your day of youth to sullied night;
And all in war with Time for love of you,
As he takes from you, I engraft you new.

Brace yourself because I'm going to say it.

Hands down, Torchwood is one of the best things that has ever happened to television.

Photobucket

I just finished watching series three Torchwood: Children of Earth. It was brilliant. I don't know if Torchwood is ever coming back, even if the writers find a way how. As a fangirl I will be bummed if it's over, but it was brilliant nonetheless.

She was trying to be funny. [13 Jul 2009|12:29pm]
[ mood | pretty aweosme ]

Chris and I took a very short (but much needed!) trip to Fort Myers this weekend. We had so much fun, and it felt great leaving Tallahassee for a day or two. I'm kinda bummed that we didn't tell more friends that we were in town, but this trip was so short that we only spent time Ms. Man and Dan (our favorites?).

Saturday was pretty awesome. Ms. Man and I got pretty hammered at Coconuts (Thanks, Nick!). It was nice-- we haven't really been drunk together since her 21st birthday. I may or may not have thrown up behind a Circle K while Ms. Man "held my pony tail back".

What really matters is that I got to spend some time with my mom. We had a serious mother/daughter bonding session over coffee. I really can tell my mom anything --and I do mean anything, and she always understands and has great advice.
She showed me pictures of her backpacking trip to South America. I've never been so jealous! I have every intention of quitting my job and backpacking for three months in South American next summer.

On Sunday my mom took Chris and I to Saltimbanco -- a touring Cirque Du Soleil show. I had never been to one before, but I was sure I was going to enjoy it. I had no idea that I was going love it, and quite possibly obsess about the show for the days to come. There were moments in the show that I was literally at the edge of my seat and biting my fingernails. The stunts that the acrobats did were so daring that at moments my heart felt like it had jumped into my throat.

The outdoors is good for the soul. [03 Jul 2009|11:56am]
This post is almost a week overdue.

I wish Chris and I would take off for long weekends more often. We always come back feeling better.

Friday night we camped at Lake Rabun in North Georgia

Photobucket

Saturday morning we woke up before dawn, packed everything up and drove to South Carolina (it was only a 45 minute drive from Lake Rabun).

I can't and don't want to explain how amazing white water rafting is. Hopefully the pictures will say it all?

Photobucket

Paddle faster, I hear banjos! )

Phil (aka Old Man River), our guide, is the best guide anyone could ever ask for. Since he has been working at Chattooga River for 25+ years, he knows a lot of history, legends, and even ghost stories about the river. He even showed us the marks and signature left on a rock from an old moonshiner.

Also, there was this huge rock formation in the river. We were allowed to climb it and jump off. My guess it was 20 ft. jump? I felt like a kid again.

After white water rafting we drove back to Georgia and to a campsite near the Tallulah Gorge. We were too sore and tired from rafting to go hiking, so we just hung around our campsite for the rest of the evening. I slept like a rock that night.

Sunday morning we woke up early and went hiking around the gorge

I want to note that Chris and I are not obsessed with the movie Deliverance. It's a coincidence that the river we rafted on and the gorge we camped at were the Deliverance filming locations.

[ music | Nancy Sinatra ]

The past few months I've been listening to music by Bobby Darin, Edith Piaf, and a ton of doo-wop. I found rock and roll when I was kid, but I believe I have an old soul. They just don't make music like they used to.

Comment to this post and I will give you five subjects/things I associate with you. Then post this to your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.

[info]coolbluereason gave me these:

1. cigarettes
2. the news
3. mr. christopher conn
4. radiohead
5. art

1. Cigarettes
I've been smoking for over seven years now. I need to quit! And I'm sure Marc thinks so too.

2. News
I've been working in television news for about four years. I started off as a production assistant, then video editor, now I'm back in production as an assistant director/floor director.

3. Mr. Christopher Conn
We've been banging for 5+ years.

4. Radiohead
I had always knew of Radiohead, but I didn't really fall in love with them until was 15. I've been crazy about them ever since.

5. Art
I enjoy art very much. I don't know that much about mediums outside of photography, but I know what I like and what I don't. One of my favorite things to do while traveling abroad is to go to art museums. I think this is because I grew up in Florida-- we're short on museums here, unless you want to drive hours and hours to get to one.

Dreams. [19 Jan 2009|12:21pm]
[ mood | awake ]

I had a horrible dream last night that I was being stalked by someone who works at my doctors office. In my dream I woke up to realize that my bedroom has been rearranged by him in the middle the night. The constant noise made by the fax machine was driving me insane, he wouldn't stop faxing my medical records! What was really eerie is that Chris and I kept making "discoveries" around our own home. My stalker was slowly removing Chris out of my life by swapping Chris' belongings for his own.

I've never been so happy by the sound of my alarm clock.

Like, whoa. I just realized this is my first post of 2009.

In honor of Frank Ranicky's retirement (36 years at WCTV), the mayor of Tallahassee proclaimed that December 18 is Frank Ranicky Day.

Earlier this week, Cameron and I filmed a candid interview with him and Julie. It was pretty awesome hearing about Frank covering the Ted Bundy arrest, and all other sorts of historic news events in the Tallahassee area.

Maybe I'm just getting old... [26 Oct 2008|08:48pm]

Last night I went to the Man Man show at Club Downunder. The crowd was fucking annoying, but I had a great time anyway.

It made me happy to hear my favorite song by them being played last night- Mister Jung Stuffed.

I can't find the motivation I need to write a stupid paper on business ethics. It's for a group project in public administration, due Wednesday. UGH.

Oh, I see what you did there. [19 Oct 2008|02:21am]
[ mood | fickle ]

I can't describe how wonderful it is to do absolutely nothing on your day off.

A few notable things:

+ I finally got full time hours at the news station.

- I had to quit rugby because of my new work hours.

- I started smoking again.

+ I'm working on a super secret project with my co-workers.

- I'm praying that this super secret project doesn't fall apart. I've already accepted that it might because all our ideas are written on cocktail napkins from bars and restaurant where business meetings are typically held.

+Regardless, I've grown to love my coworkers. I want to fold them up and put them in my pocket.

- The comparative politics course that I'm taking is kicking my ass. Fuck you Game Theory, Perfect Nash Equilibrium, and loose definitions of democracy.

+ I made a wonderful friend at school. Annie is a 23 year old political science major that is addicted to all things caffeinated and smokes like a chimney. We bitch about loose definitions of democracy together. She's great company.

I've been an obsessive Late Night with Conan O'Brien fan since I was a kid. I'm sure you can imagine my emotional distress by admitting that I've been preferring the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson lately.

I feel like I just cheated on my boyfriend.

Cessation. [10 Sep 2008|09:16pm]
[ mood | UGH ]

I'm embarrassingly out of shape, so I expected that rugby practice was going to be very difficult. However, I had no idea that running for ten seconds would get me so winded. Seven years of smoking have finally caught on to me.

I quit smoking.

I'm only on day two. Even though I've been wearing nicotine patches to subdue the withdrawals, I still feel like something is missing and horribly wrong. The patches have awful side effects like nausea. But I rather that than head-pounding headaches, irritability, and well- giving in to the nicotine withdrawals.

Layers. [04 Sep 2008|11:46am]
[ mood | sore ]

It's Chris' 30th birthday! We will be celebrating with several pints of Guinness at Finnegan's Wake this evening.

Super Nanny wrapped up last week. I signed a lot of confidentiality paperwork, so I can't really say much. With that said- I had a great time experiencing and learning the works of a reality show. The 12 hour filming days were a little rough. I did a lot, but mostly helped out the art director.

The second week of school is almost over. I haven't been this excited about school in a long time. I'm sure it has a little something to do with finally being enrolled in all political science classes.

I've been entertaining the idea of joining an FSU sports club for a while. I kicked around the idea of fencing or sailing. I ended up joining FSU's women's rugby club. My first practice was yesterday, and I loved every moment of it. I got some sort of a thrill from tackling/being tackled without protective gear. However, this morning every inch of my body is sore. I'm covered in bruises and scrapes. I'm a forward on the team, so the mechanics of building a scrum were taught to me right away. I was really uncomfortable with it at first, terrified of snapping my neck. But the more I did it, the more I started to enjoy it.

A youtube video I found on scrumming.

The show that makes me want to get my tubes tied [12 Aug 2008|08:03pm]
[ mood | bursting wth joy ]

The ABC reality show Super Nanny is filming an episode in Tallahassee.

Photobucket

I sent the production company my resume when I found out they were hiring a production assistant. I can't explain how happy I was when I saw that L.A. number register on my caller ID. I literally started jumping up and down as the producer was discussing the filming schedule and pay.

I'm so happy that I can't even form proper sentences.

You're standing on my neck [27 Jun 2008|04:42am]
[ mood | restless ]

I don't want to sound ridiculous by self-diagnosing myself with insomnia, but this sleep deprivation my body is volunteering for is driving me crazy.
When I finally doze off for an hour or two, I feel fully conscious. It feels like I blinked for a very long time. I'm exhausted- but I just can't sleep.

On the upside, I've been catching up on my reading, movies, shows, and news articles.

I bought some over-the-counter sleeping pills. I'm a little hesitant on taking them, but after my second week of restlessness- I'm feeling desperate.
